Who can ever forget, when they saw a buffalo for the first time? I will always remember the sight of them shrug lounging in the grass on a hot summer day at the zoo, the insects away, swing their tails back and forth. Joseph Bruchac interest has grown in Buffalo when he was a child, stood in front of a pen on the Catskill Game Farm in upstate New York. Because he brings us this powerful story about how this American icon has been saved from extinction.
For thousands of yearsmassive herds of buffalo covered much of North America, but in 1870 was less than one hundred fifteen of these animals. Hunted to the brink of extinction, the buffalo were to disappear in danger. Thanks to the efforts of some people, we can look at these incredible creatures today.
The story begins as a buffalo calf confused, hungry and frightened and the mother has the rest of their herd of white hunters lost. Saved by two members of the tribe of Nez Percehappened to go and see her, is a small shelter for orphans buffalo began to walk and Coyote and his wife Maria a part. Give the calf to nurse back to health and, along with many orphans of buffalo, the perilous journey through a great pass to a buffalo sanctuary largest and pasture to pasture. Orphans finally presented the Flathead Indian Reservation in Montana, where, together with other buffalo, Walking Coyote, and otherMinded people to safety, they thrive and grow in a herd of about seven hundred.
One can not help but close to the main character, Walking Coyote. You feel for his family is poor and on a mission to save these creatures one by one. She is also the story of the calf that is losing its flock and eventually a leader is drawn. The story reminds us how important these animals in America and gives us an idea of the people who took up a largeEndeavor. If it were not for my feet Coyote and others, we not only our memories of these bat Buffalo their tails in the zoo. Only for this, I recommend that everyone read Buffalo Song.
